Bill and Alisa Bates, Price, Utah

Bill and Alisa were both born and raised in Carbon County, Utah, Bill in Spring Glen and Alisa in Wellington. Both attended Carbon High School, although Alisa was 3 years behind in school, so not at the same time.

They met at the College of Eastern Utah, 10 days after Bill returned home from his mission. His father only gave him one piece of advice about dating, ‘stay away from those Wellington girls!’ Of course, he did not know Alisa, and we all see how well his advice was heeded and how well it has worked out. They have been married 44 years, and have 8 children.

Bill served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kobe, Japan, from 1974 to 1976. After returning, he attended the College of Eastern Utah, and Utah State University, earning a master’s degree in Wildlife Science. He began working for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources in 1982, where he served for 36 years as a wildlife biologist, manager, program coordinator, Regional Supervisor, Section Chief and Assistant Director.

Alisa worked as a housewife, raising her children, and as a kindergarten aid when her twins were in elementary school. She is an author, with one published historical novel and two poetry books.

After retiring in 2018, Bill and Alisa served a public affairs in the Asia North Area, stationed in Tokyo. This was one of the highlights of their lives, and appreciated the opportunity to meet with the saints throughout Japan. They were active in interfaith, and wrote and published many articles on Church Newsroom Japan.
